While the Model 1849 Pocket Pistol was not an “official” weapon of the Civil War in the United States, it was unofficially very much present. Most soldiers in the War of the States began the war with their own weapons and a commonly carried weapons was this gun. Colt produced 340,000 copies of this gun in 200 different styles over 23 years, making it the most-produced cap-and-ball gun that Colt ever made.
This simple revolver is the “Wells Fargo” model, which featured a 3 inch barrel for maximum convenience. The short barrel detracted from the gun’s accuracy, but made it easy to carry, hence the “pocket revolver” name, as no bulky gunbelt was needed to effectively carry this weapon.
This non-firing revolver has the grey finish throughout with a wooden grip, measures 8 inches in overall length, and weighs in at just 1.2 pounds.
