The 1840 non-commissioned sword was used by non-commissioned officers of the American military for nearly a decade. Based on a German infantry design, this sword was first used by the British in the course of the Napoleonic wars. Later, American sergeants carried the sword during the Mexican-American war and the American Civil War.
This version features a 31¾” unsharpened blade and a steel scabbard. Typical features of this sword include the rib-textured grip as part of a cast-brass hilt with a round, capstanned pommel and kidney-shaped guard. A small ricasso leads to a wide fuller running nearly to the tip. This single-edged sword served well, as the longevity and diversity of its use attests.
Can be sharpened for an additional fee.
