This massive wooden shield measures 46″ long and 24.5″ wide and represents the classic “kite” design typical of what the Norman knights of the 11th century would have carried as they established their power across Europe. The shape of this shield evolved from a need to have something that offered good protection while still allowing mobility on foot or from horseback.
