Uesugi Kenshin was a well-known, celebrated warlord who ruled the province of Echigo in Japan's Sengoku Period. With Takeda Shingen, he was engaged in the Battle of Kawanakajima and became the owner of the castle of Haruyama. A sword belonging to the Musashi Hand Honed series, this high temper carbon steel sword is full-tang. The craftsmanship is of the highest quality, using an iron wrap process construction, where the blade was made by combining two pieces of steel with different hardiness into one solid piece. Through a differential tempering process, the desired hardiness was achieved. This impressive looking sword has an overall length of 40.75" with the scabbard on, and without, its length is 38.5". The sword is made from all steel fittings, and as was the tradition of the day, the scabbard is made from wood and has a black sage-o with a golden kurigata. The hilt is wrapped in imitation Ray skin and black cotton cord. Its full tang blade of carbon construction is 27" long and .25" thick, tapering to the tip at 3/16".
