The Single-Action Revolver was produced in many forms and many calibers from 1872 to 1940, with production totaling some 350,000 pieces. As its introduction coincided with the settlement of the Wild West, the Frontier Six Shooter were popularized. By the mid-1880s the gun became the standard side arm for the army and was referred to as the Single - Action Army Revolver .Many civilian models have been superbly engraved and / or plated in precious metals over the revolvers lifetime.
